Graduate Studies applicants applying for admission to Northern Caribbean University
Late applications may be considered but will attract late fees.

General Requirements

Master’s Programmes
Regular admission - 3.0 GPA or above
Provisional admission - Minimum GPA of 2.67
Conditional, and Non-Degree Seeking- Special Student 2.55-2.66 GPA
Doctoral Programmes
Regular admission - 3.3 GPA or above
Provisional admission - minimum GPA of 3.0

To be admitted into the School of Graduate Studies, the applicant must have submitted:

  • Completed application
  • Statement of Purpose (Masters and Post-graduate Diploma 250 words; Doctoral 500 words, minimum)
  • Applicants whose GPA falls below this level may submit other evidence of their ability to successfully complete a graduate programme.
    Such evidence may include grades and scores in post-baccalaureate courses, diplomas, certificates or a record of progressively higher work responsibilities.
  • References (as per programme requirement)
  • Official transcript from previous institution(s) or passing score from an Alternate Entry Requirement; Examination or Professional Experience
  • Notarized copy of degree
  • Three passport size photos
  • Proof of payment for application fee

Conditions for Matriculation into individual departments and programmes may require that the applicant meets higher GPA requirements.
Refer to the admission requirements of individual colleges for special application deadlines and additional requirements.

Alternate Entry Requirements

In the absence of a bachelor’s or master’s degree the applicant may apply for admission by Examination or by Professional Experience alternative methods of entry. This admission criterion is for applicants who do not meet the specified matriculation requirements for regular admission into either the Master’s or the Doctoral programmes.

In other exceptions, degree equivalencies will be considered.

Master's

    To qualify for this admission status, Master’s applicants must:
  • be over 25 years of age
  • sit and pass an English and/or Mathematics examination set by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research
  • submit certificates obtained from short courses from recognized institutions within the last ten years; these could also be reviewed to determine eligibility.

Doctoral

    To qualify for this admission status, Doctoral applicants must:
  • be over 25 years of age
  • sit and pass an English and/or Mathematics examination set by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research or,
  • have completed a Bachelor's degree at an accredited tertiary level institution
  • submit certificates obtained from short courses from recognized institutions within the last ten years; these could also be reviewed to determine eligibility.

Incomplete Applications

Applicants are reminded that if they were given provisional acceptance and have not yet fulfilled the requirements for acceptance into their programmes, which include meeting the standard for matriculation, be interviewed by their departments and submission of all outstanding documents, they will not be given a formal acceptance letter at the New Students’ Meeting.
