Gallimore
Scholarship Fund
History:
This scholarship was endowed b the Gallimore
family in honour of Myrtle and Gideon Gallimore who both attended
West Indies College, now Northern Caribbean University, beginning in the year 1921. Mr. Gallimore
became an
outstanding politician – Member of Parliament, Parliamentary
Secretary, and Acting Minister in the Jamaican Government. Mrs.
Gallimore had 30 years of unbroken service as an elected Parish
Councilor.
Eligibility:
Available to
students who are from the parish of St. Ann. The Gallimore family
decides.
Dr. C. Aebersold
Student Loan Fund
History:
World War II veteran and late lecturer at Eastern Kentucky State
College, Dr. Aebersold pioneered work with school boards to assist
teachers with disabilities. He also co-authored an academic
programme for deaf students at the Jefferson County Area Vocational
School. He has been a benefactor of NCU (West Indies College), where
his nephew, Dr. Clifton Keller, worked for a few years.
Eligibility:
Established for students in the Natural Science department.
Garnet and Joyce
Alexander Trust Fund for Education
History:
This scholarship was endowed on the
80th birthday of Mrs. Joyce Alexander. Both Joyce and Garnet
graduated from West Indies College, and established the Glanvilla
Educational Institute in Christiana, Manchester. They enrolled three
children in the alma mater who in turn, have recognized the work of
their parents by establishing the scholarship.

History:

History:

Clarence and Sylvia
Barnes Endowed Scholarship Fund
History:
This fund was established in 1989 by Drs Clarence and Sylvia Barnes,
both alumni of NCU. The fund will provide scholarships to needy
students in any department of the college.

Available to needy students.
Joseph N. and Ercillina
A. Barnes Scholarship Fund
History:
These devoted parents sent seven of their thirteen children to NCU
(West Indies College. Several grandchildren also attended the
College. All have had outstanding careers within and outside the
Church. Endowed by their children and grandchildren, the scholarship
honours their parents as well as their alma mater.
Eligibility:
The Barnes family names the recipient.
Merle Bennett
History:
Established by Dr. Harold Bennett and his children V. Melody and
Wayne, in honour of a dear wife and mother.
Eligibility:
For needy students from the Education Department. Students must
display scholastic ability.
Baron Educational Fund
History:
This foundation was established by New York based Baron Levy, an
energetic businessman and alumnus of NCU.
Eligibility:
Donors make recommendations.
Jean Blake-Lloyd
Revolving Loan Fund
History: An alumna
of NCU, Dr. Blake a former Mathematics teacher at WIC (now Victor
Dixon) High School has distinguished herself at Alabama A & M
University. Her loan fund benefits students with pressing needs,
however small.
Eligibility:
Available to students with financial difficulty. Students must
sign a promissory.
British Alumni Chapter
Scholarship Fund
History:
This scholarship has been established by NCU alumni in the United
Kingdom.

Delphina Brodie
Scholarship Fund
History:
“Aunt Del” served NCU (WIC) in the Primary School and the Home
Economics Department for 47 years combined. She was a well-known,
beloved Christian servant. The scholarship established at her
passing recognizes her work. Awards will benefit students in Primary
Education and Home Economics
Eligibility:
Available to students who major in Primary Education and
Education.
William Brodie Student
Loan Fund
History:
Established by Mr. William Brodie, a Physical Therapist who resides
in Seattle, Washington.
Eligibility:
Religion student must maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0. Must
demonstrate leadership skills. Loan must be repaid within nine
months of graduation at an interest rate not exceeding 5% per annum.
Lilieth Brown-Shaw
Endowed Scholarship Fund
History:
The scholarship was endowed at the June 1995 graduation by the
Commencement speaker, Dr. Talbert Shaw, President of the Shaw
University, Raleigh, North Carolina, in honour of his late wife.
Commencing 1998, awards will be made to junior Religion or Teacher
Education majors who display exemplary behaviour, leadership
ability, and commitment to service.
Eligibility:
Available to student in the Religion or Education Department.
Student must display leadership qualities, and must maintain a 3.0
GPA in their programme.
Ansell C. and Hilda M.
Brown Scholarship in Fine Arts and Letters
History:
This scholarship has been established by Dr. & Mrs. Bassett Brown of
Pasadena, California, in honour of Dr. Brown’s late parents – Police
Officer Ansell C. and his wife of Hathfield, Manchester. Both were
ardent supporters of Christian education and of NCU. Dr. Brown, an
alumnus, is an eminently successful clinician in California. Mrs.
Brown, a nurse, supports him in his work.

Randolph White Scholarship Fund
History: In
establishing the scholarship fund, Randolph White has given
recognition to his mother, and has himself contributed to student
advancement. Both Virginia Buckham, and Randolph White are alumni of
NCU (WIC).

Fay Burwell Scholarship
Fund
History:
Fay Burwell, an alumna who has distinguished herself in local
political life in New York City, established this fund for open
scholarships to needy students.

Available to needy students.
W. U. Campbell
Scholarship Fund
History:
The late Pastor W.U. Campbell served as President of West Indies
Union for eight years. He also served in many other capacities, such
as lecturer in the Religion department of Caribbean Union College,
Trinidad, and NCU (WIC), Jamaica, Publishing Department, Church
Administrator, and Missionary. The scholarship has been established
by his wife Mary, and son Michael.

Available to students in the Religion Department.

Scholarship Fund
History:
This scholarship was endowed by successful U.S.A. based alumni who
celebrated 40 years of post NCU achievement. The scholarship was
formally launched at homecoming 1995.

Colporteur Scholarship
Programme
History:
Yearly students are able to finance their university expense through
the sale of religious and health literature. The profits from their
sales are augmented by bonuses from the SDA Conferences Adventist
Book Centers and Northern Caribbean University.

Scholarship Fund
History:
Established by Dr. & Mrs. Dwyer distinguished alumni from the
Orlando Alumni Chapter.
Eligibility:
Available for Education students from West Jamaica Conference of
SDAs, or the parish of Manchester, Jamaica. Must have a GPA of at
least 2.6.

Memorial Scholarship Fund
History:
Pastor Victor Griffiths, a distinguished alumnus, entered the
ministry and later as Educational Secretary in the General
Conference of Seventh, Day Adventist
Eligibility:
S. M. Jones Scholarship
in Religion
History:
This scholarship has been established by Nurse Sadie Geraldine
Jones-Thompson, Canadian resident, in honour of her late father,
Pastor Samuel Methuselah Jones. Pastor Jones was one of the first
five Jamaican nationals to be ordained to the Seventh Day Adventist
Ministry in 1906. Later called to serve in the coloured work in the
USA, he spent fourteen years in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas
establishing several churches during that time. The veteran
exemplary Christian closed his work at his death in 1932.

Joseph Kennedy
Scholarship Fund
History:
The fun was established by a grateful son, Mr. Thoywell Kennedy, an
alumnus of the University, and his wife, Pauline, in honour of his
latefather.
Eligibility:
This fund is available to students who are members of the Asia
Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Manchester, Jamaica.
Lizsa-Simone Laird
Scholarship Fund
History:
This scholarship was established in honour of Lizsa-Simone Laird by
her parents. Lizsa-Simone was a Business Administration student of
NCU, who died in 1994 at the age of 20 years.
Eligibility:
Available to students in the Business Department who are members
of the Knockpatrick SDA Church, or the South Manchester, Jamaica,
region.
Anna Levine Lumley
Scholarship in Nursing
History:
Established by relatives in honour of Anna L. Lumley, first Jamaican
woman of colour to graduate from Loma Linda Nursing School. She was
a selfless supporter of Northern Caribbean University.
Eligibility:
Available to Nursing students.
Mullings Award
Scholarship Fund
History:
The Mullings Award and Scholarship Fund is established by Dr. and
Mrs. Llewllyn M. Mullings, alumni of Northern Caribbean University,
in honour of their late parents, Mr. & Mrs. B.C. Mullings, and Mrs.
Lillian Murray, avid supporters of educational excellence. Dr
Mullings has served as Dean of the College of Business at the
University of Bridgeport and Director of the MBA programme.
Eligibility:
For needy Business students with high grades and leadership
potential.
Ann Taylor-Nembhard
Scholarship in Religion and Music
History:
This scholarship has been established by the grateful surviving
children of the late Ann Taylor Nembhard. She sent her five children
to West Indies College, three of whom Harold, Melvin and Hilbert
became ministers and administrators in the denomination at the
Conference and Division levels. The late Pastor Harold Nembhard was
President of East Jamaica Conference, Jamaica.

New Jersey USA Alumni
Scholarship Programme
History:
The New Jersey Alumni Chapter regularly sponsors five or six
students through school.

Trust Fund
History:
Devoted Alumni of the New York City, USA area established a
scholarship fund for needy working students in any department. It
has benefited many students since its establishment.

University General Scholarship Fund
History:
Small or large non-designated gifts go to this fund which is used to
sustain the following scholarships: Freshman Placement
Scholarships, Honours Convocation Awards, President’s Awards,
Scholarships to graduates of SDA High Schools.

Nursing Endowment Fund
History:
This fund was initiated by Nurse Shirlene Mclean-Henriques, a member
of the first class of the new West Indies College degree in Nursing.
She was one of the first six nurses who graduated from the programme
in 1974, and is now the Hospital Training Co-ordinator, whose
responsibilities include being in charge of the Licensed Practical
Nurse program, in the Cayman Islands. These first graduates hold
responsible positions in Canada, Cayman Islands, the US, and
Jamaica, including also the former Director of Nursing, here at NCU,
Mrs. N. McKenzie. The fund is boosted by contributions from
graduates of this programme.

Orlando Alumni Chapter
Scholarship Fund
History: The
scholarship fund was established by the Alumni in Orlando, Florida,
USA.
Eligibility:
Available to graduating seniors who have been working.
Pacific Coast Alumni
Chapter Scholarship Fun/
History:
This scholarship was established by active NCU alumni on the West
Coast of the United States of America.
Eligibility:
The scholarship benefits working students of academic promise –
Sophomore, Juniors, & Seniors only.
Gertrude and Sam Palmer
Scholarship Fund, and J.C. Palmer Worthy Student Revolving Fund
History:
This scholarship was established by a grateful son, an alumnus, in
honour of his parents, also alumni. Dr. & Mrs. Palmer distinguished
themselves in the areas of Theology and Education, respectively.
They both served WIC – Dr. Palmer as Head of the Religion
Department, and Mrs. Palmer as a devoted teacher of Mathematics and
Head of the Department of Freshman Advisement.
Eligibility:
Loans available to Religion majors, which should be repaid after
graduation or ASAP.
Carmen Petrie Loan Fund
History: In
appreciation of the work-study programme of NCU, from which she
benefited, Carmen has established this open loan fund.

Memorial Fund
History:
Established for Business Administration students.

Educational Foundation Inc.
History:
The proceeds from investments by two alumni – eminent dental surgeon
and businessman of Boston USA and his wife are shared between
capital projects and scholarships at NCU.

Scholarship Fund
History:
Established by the class of 2000 for tuition assistance to one
senior student.
Eligibility:
In order to qualify the student must be a senior in the year for
which the scholarship is requested, meet all entry requirements, be
working, or is unable to work due to illness or disability, have a
minimum GPA of 3.5, have financial need, and is actively involved in
campus or community life.
Science Students
Scholarship Fund
History:
This fund was established by Dr. Simon Witter, Jamaican Obstetrician
and Gynecologist of Massachusetts, USA, and Dr. Charles Burke,
Physician of New York City, USA.

Alumni Chapter Scholarship Fund
History:
This fund was established by alumni in the Southern States of the
USA for scholarships to needy students.

Memorial Scholarship Fund in Nursing
History:
This scholarship was established by Dr. Ouida Spleen-Westney, an
alumna of NCU in honor of her mother who valued SDA education. Dr.
Westney became a Professor in the Ecology Department at Howard
University.

The awards will go to Nursing students.
Summer Class 1993
Scholarship Fund
History:
This open scholarship was endowed by the Summer Class of 1993 to
benefit students in various departments of NCU on a rotating basis,
commencing with the Business Department. Eligibility:
Open to all departments.
Summer Class 1995
Scholarship Fund
History:
Initiated by the Summer Class of 1995, the scholarship is to assist
fourth year students.
Eligibility:
Available to seniors.
Kenneth & Fredricka Vaz
Scholarship Fund
History:
Established by Dr. & Mrs. Kenneth Vaz distinguished alumni of NCU
who have served for many years on this campus. Dr. Vaz served as
President of the then WIC and Mrs. Vaz as a lecturer par excellence
in the English Department.
Eligibility:
Available to Religion seniors. The Vaz family decides.
Carmen and Noel Wallace
Endowed Scholarship Fund
History:
This scholarship was established in 1990 by two friends of NCU. The
beneficiaries are students in Religion, Nursing, or Science. Sadly,
Carmen passed in 1995.
Eligibility: For
students in Religion, Nursing or Science Departments.
Lucille A. Walters
Memorial Scholarship Fund
History:
This scholarship was established in the honour of Lucille A.
Walters, greatly beloved teacher and administrator of NCU, who died
November 1993. The fund will benefit students of History. Grants may
also be made for historical research.
Eligibility:
The Federation of Alumni Chapters will name the recipient.
WICAANA
History:
This scholarship fund was established by the West Indies College
Alumni Association of North America to mark the diamond anniversary
of the establishment of the University at “Coolsworthy” Mandeville,
Jamaica.
Eligibility:
The Federation of Alumni Chapters will name the recipient.
Rosetta Vaughan-Westney
Scholarship Fund
History:
This scholarship was endowed in honor of a devoted mother by her
three successful children, Drs. Lennox, Adrian, and Gloria
Westney-Robinson, all alumni of NCU. Dr. Lennox became Chairman of
Obsterics and Gynecology Department of Howard University. Dr. Adrian
became
Associate Director of
Education and Head of the Religious Liberty Department of Columbia
Union Conference of SDA, Maryland. Dr. Gloria works as a Dietician
in New York Hospital.
Eligibility:
Students in Religion and Science are eligible for awards.
Gertrude and Sam Wray
Education Fund
History:
This fund was initiated by Mrs. Gertrude, retired lecturer in the
Education Department of NCU, and Mr. Sam Wray, her husband, former
Director of the Woodwork Department of the University. The fund is
to be boosted through departmental and other efforts.
Eligibility:
The fund is to provide assistance to students on the bases of
scholarship and need.
Sir James B. Carlisle
Award & Lady Carlisle Award
History:
Sir James Carlisle, an accomplished Dental Surgeon, and Governor
General of Antigua, at the time the scholarship was established, was
the Commencement speaker at the 2002 Graduation exercise. It was out
of this encounter that he graciously decided to offer two
scholarships, one in his name and the other in his wife’s, the “Lady
Carlisle Award”.
Eligibility:
The Sir James Carlisle Award will go to the top Dental Hygiene
student of the year, and the Lady Carlisle Award to the most
outstanding student, to be selected by the President from any other
discipline.
Gladys Young
Scholarship Fund
History:
The scholarship was endowed in honour of his mother by a grateful
son, Dr. Herman Ricketts, alumnus of NCU and eminent physician of
Pasedena California.

History:
This fund was established by an alumnus of the University, who
wishes to remain anonymous.
Eligibility:
Available to final year Nursing and Education students, interest
free while attending NCU, interest rate of 7% per annum, after
graduation, and payments must begin within six months after
graduation.
