THE LIBRARY'S COLLECTION

The collection is comprised of books, pamphlets, journals, newspaper clippings, microfilms, electronic resources, West Indian and S.D.A. collections.

DEPARTMENTS
REFERENCE & HERITAGE COLLECTIONS

Located on the main floor, the Reference Department houses encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, maps, biographies, pamphlets, newsletters, government materials, newsletters, government materials, newspaper clippings, and books published by and about Seventh-day Adventists. Materials in this section can only be used in the library.

RESERVE BOOK COLLECTION

The RBC is a collection of textbooks recommended by lecturers. It also includes Ellen White G. White Collection. It is located on the ground floor at the Circulation Desk.

WEST INDIAN COLLECTION

The West Indian Collection is located on the main floor. This Collection has materials about the West Indies or written and published by a West Indian.

PERIODICAL COLLECTION

Houses over 300 titles of current and back issues of periodicals. The Gleaner, New York Times and Wall Street Journals can be found in this area. These materials can only be used in the Library. The Library now has access to 1300 full text journals on-line via the Internet.

AUDIO VISUAL

The Audio-Visual Room is located on the upper floor. Equipment is for teaching and individual purposes. Bookings must be made at least one day in advance for the use of the room and equipment. Appointments must be made with a librarian.

OPEN STACKS

The general collection is housed on the upper floor. Materials in this section can be borrowed for two weeks.

REGISTRATION

All University students, faculty and staff are eligible for membership. Students are required to register at the Circulation Desk on presentation of valid authorization and ID cards. Faculty and staff members are required to present a valid ID card or a letter of introduction from the relevant department. Details such as name, address, department and account number are required.

SERVICES OFFERED

  • Regular loan period is two weeks. Special materials in the West Indian Collection and RBC are for periods of 3 days and two hours respectively.
  • Graduate students are allowed six books and undergraduate, four books.
  • Members of faculty are allowed a maximum of ten books for the semester. Notices will be sent for the books at the end of the semester.
  • Materials are checked out at the Circulation Desk when the lending form is filled out and a valid ID is presented.
  • A fine is charged for overdue books.
  • Students who have overdue books or owe fines will have their borrowing privileges revoked until their account is cleared.
  • Books are returned at the Circulation Desk. Patrons should ensure that his/her loan is cancelled before leaving the desk.

OVERDUE BOOKS

Books on loan must be returned or renewed before the last date stamped on the date due label. Overdue notices will be sent for outstanding books which will incur a fine of ten dollars ($10.00) per day. This fine is subject to change. Unpaid fines will be charged to a student's account. If a student has a book outstanding for two months, his/her borrowing privileges will be suspended.

MATERIAL RESERVATIONS

Reservations can be made for books that are on loan. Forms can be obtained at the Circulation's desk.

INTER-LIBRARY LOAN

Materials not available in the library can be made available through inter-library loan. Request for inter-library loans are to be made at the Reference desk.

LOST BOOKS

If a book is lost, a report should be made at the Circulation Desk in which time will be given for a search to be made. If the book cannot be found, a cost will be charged for replacement.

PHOTOCOPYING

Copies can be made at a cost of five to ten dollars ($5.00 - $10.00) per copy. This cost is subject to change. The Library will allow only 10 pages of a book to be copied. Copies are made for departments by authorized persons only.

INTERNET

The Internet service is available to all University faculty, staff and students. Reservations to use the service must be made at least one day in advance. A valid library membership and ID card must be presented.
