Position: Sociologist Lecturer

 

 

Qualifications and Experience Required:

 

  • PhD from an accredited institution in a related discipline and/or earned MSc or MA from an accredited sociology programme with a minimum of two years post masters experience,
  • At least three years’ experience in teaching at an undergraduate level.  Experience in teaching in an online environment will be an asset.

 

Job Summary  

This position is responsible for teaching undergraduate sociology courses.  Primary appointment will be at the main campus.  The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Plan and implement innovative instructional strategies for recommended credit load per semester. Prepare and administer examinations and ensure that the prescribed content is covered in a timely manner.
  • Teach classes across the Behavioural and Social Sciences curriculum using innovative and effective strategies for adult learners including using technology to teach distance courses.
  • Participate in programme assessment and development within the Department.

 

 

 

Required Skills or Competencies:

 

  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to engage in community partnership and programme development
  • Familiarity with the generalist, ecological and ethnic-sensitive models of social work practice.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, integrity, dependability, sound judgement, teambuilding and resourcefulness to establish and maintain collaborative, positive, and effective working relationships with students and colleagues.
