Please take keen note of the following information

As a Freshman Advisor your responsibilities are as follows:

 
  • to attend all scheduled meetings. If you are unable to attend, please inform one of the Directors.

  • to continue after Orientation and Registration and for the rest of the Academic Year

  • to be a Big Brother/Big Sister for the new students to whom you are assigned.

  • to be a contact, friend, role model and source of support when things get rough for freshmen

  • to lead by example. As a result, your dress, speech, and deportment must be exemplary at all times.


  • to ensure that you schedule meetings with your siblings at least once every two weeks. These meetings should facilitate and encourage the following:
  • Spiritual Development (Devotion)
  • Physical and Mental Development (Games or other activities)
  • Emotional Development (Counselling or helping with concerns)
  • Social Development (Games and other activities)
  • to have an NCU e-mail address as information from the Department will be sent to you via e-mail. It is your duty to get this information and respond appropriately.

 


Please note the Following:

  •  

    Be very mindful of the relationships that are formed, and the type of interaction that occurs. Your primary responsibility is to give guidance.

  •  You are a ‘goodwill ambassador’ trained to help incoming students feel comfortable about their new home away from home.
  • If you are unable to address a concern that may be raised, please make the Department  aware. Do not attempt to solve problems that you are not adequately prepared to handle.
  • If at anytime you feel that the responsibilities placed on you are becoming overwhelming, or that your classes are suffering, please make the Directors aware. If needs be, we will have to relieve you of your duties.
  • Collecting money from your siblings is not a rule. If they consent to pool together so that you can have a function, that is fine. The Department will not be responsible if money is misplaced, lost or stolen.

  • Please be as confidential as possible. Some of them may confide in you. It is your obligation to ensure that the student feels comfortable sharing information with you. The same matter of confidentiality also stands for information that is given to you through the Department.

  • The Department reserves the right to terminate your services if the need arises.
