representations of the quality of a university’s offerings is the quality of its
graduates. The quality of graduates is in large part due to the quality of the new

Here is a brief overview of our offerings:
Doctoral Programmes The minimum GPA for regular admission is
3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) in a master’s programme or its equivalent. Applicants whose
GPA falls below this level may submit other evidence of their ability to successfully
complete a graduate programme. Such evidence may include grades and scores in postgraduate
courses, diplomas, certificates or a record of progressively higher work responsibilities.
Master’s Programmes To be admitted into the School of Graduate
Studies, the applicant must have received a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent
from a college or university of recognised standing. The standard for regular admission
to a graduate programme at the master’s level is an undergraduate degree with a
GPA of at least 3.00 (on a 4.0 scale) or its equivalent. Applicants whose GPA falls
below this level may submit other evidence of their ability to successfully complete
a graduate programme. Such evidence may include grades and scores in post-baccalaureate
courses, diplomas, certificates or a record of progressively higher work responsibilities.
Conditions for Matriculation
Matriculation into individual departments
and programmes may require that the applicant meets higher GPA requirements. Refer
to the admission requirements of individual colleges for special application deadlines
and additional requirements.
Final action on an application for admission
to the School of Graduate Studies is taken by the Graduate Council. The applicant
must submit the following for review to the School of Graduate Studies, Northern
Caribbean University, Manchester Road Mandeville, Jamaica, W.I.:
§ The completed graduate application
form.
§ A non-refundable application fee.
§ Official transcripts of all previous
undergraduate and graduate work completed at recognised or accredited
institutions. (Students’ copies of transcripts are not acceptable.)
§ Two references, one of which attests
to the person’s character, educational background, and/or work experience.
(These are to be
submitted by the referees in sealed envelopes directly to the School of Graduate
Studies, Northern Caribbean University, Manchester Road Mandeville, Jamaica, W.I.)
§ A clear statement of purpose.
§ Participation in a pre-acceptance
interview where required.

Undergraduate Admissions
All inquiries about and applications for admission and transcripts of credit should
be addressed to the Director of Admissions and Enrolment Management at Northern
Caribbean University, Manchester Road Mandeville, Jamaica, W.I.
Freshman Admissions
Applicants for admission to the freshman class should submit their application materials
as early as possible in their senior year of high school or at least three (3) months
prior to expected enrolment.
Baccalaureate Programmes
Students seeking admission into the baccalaureate programmes must comply with at
least one of the following requirements:
- Five General Certificate of Education (GCE) or Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC)
passes (at a minimum of level III or Grade C) or equivalent, including English Language.
- Four General Certificate of Education (GCE) or Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) passes (at a minimum level of level III or Grade C) and one Secondary School Certificate (SSC) pass in the National Assessment, Range 5, including English Language.
- Transfer from a recognised tertiary institution with at least sophomore standing,
(minimum of 32 transferable semester credits), and must have satisfied matriculation
requirements at that institution. Students transferring with less than 32 credits
will be classified as freshmen and all NCU matriculation requirements will apply.
- A minimum score of 1170 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT I) for students outside
the English Speaking Caribbean, where 1, 2 and 3 above do not apply.
- A minimum Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT II) of 650 for individual subjects is required
for science programmes.
- A three year diploma or associate degree from an approved tertiary institution.
- ACT composite score of 26.
Associate Programmes
- Five General Certificate of Education (GCE) or Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC)
passes (at a minimum of level III or Grade C) or equivalent including English Language.
- Four General Certificate of Education (GCE) or Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) passes (at a minimum level of level III or Grade C) and one Secondary School Certificate (SSC) pass in the National Assessment, Range 5, including English Language.
- Transfer from a recognised tertiary institution with at least sophomore standing
